Following Union government’s Digital India initiative to ensure that government services are made available to citizens electronically by improving on line infrastructure and by increasing internet connectivity, government telecom operator, BSNL claims to have launched the Next Generation, faster than 4G WiFi services at Dashaswamedh and Sheetla Ghats.
These are initial spots for the launch and will later expanded to seven more ghats. The company said that total nine hotspots are in operation at present at Kashi and four hotspots at Sarnath temple.
Currently, BSNL is offering WiFi services at the following Ghats – Dashaswamedh Ghat, Sheetla Ghats, RP Ghat, Manmandir Ghat, Tript Bhairav Ghat, Mir Ghat, Manikarnika Ghat of Uttar Pradesh. BSNL officials said, “With festive season and new year around the corner, it is an opportunity and occasion for people to enjoy the benefit of BSNL WiFi hotspot (faster than 4G) in Varanasi and Sarnath areas of the state.”
Till date, around 65,000 people have used the BSNL WiFi services and downloaded total about 7.5 TB of data in last few months. BSNL says that everyday about 500 people are using the WiFi services and downloading 40 to 60 GB data. It said, “BSNL WiFi services is offering speed of 2 to 10 Mbps per user at the 7 Ghats. We have enabled the experience of high speed internet access at next generation speeds at 10 Mbps and N* 10 Mbps.
To make the facility more customized for people, BSNL has also arranged for digitally enabled vouchers in different denominations with different time and volume of data download, available to the citizens and tourist for availing WiFi services at these places. BSNL has launched faster than 4G WiFi services in ten states in India until now, including monuments like Taj Mahal, Varanasi Ghat, Sarnath Temple, Konark Temple, Hampi, Puri Jagnnath Temple, Charminar, Hussein Sagar Lake, Necklace Road, Hyderabad, Cubbon Park and Lalbagh etc in Bangalore and many places in Raipur, Bhopal, Pondicherry, Tanjore, Gujrat, Daman Diu etc.
BSNL said, “We have launched about 450 hotspots in just 5 months. Citizens and tourists can use and take the advantage of these latest Wi Fi hot spots internet access facilities (faster than 4G ) at these places.”
